WHAT IS THIS SITE ALL ABOUT?
Site Dedication:
Family has always been important to me. I became interested in genealogy from the time I was in high school, and I had penned out a simplistic family tree focusing only on my grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. It was not until I became a parent that I began to search for more family ties, looking back into past generations. My mother had always told us that our great, great, etc. grandfather, Abraham Clark, had signed the Declaration of Independence. I had great pride in that story; however I never had the family tree or documentation to make that a meaningful family connection. It wasn’t until I began using the Internet that I discovered I could find more genealogical information. My cousin, Dennis Clark, had already organized much of the family tree and had sparked my interest in doing even more research. What I found was a tangled web of name changes and inconsistencies, as well as many dead ends as I tried to make sense of the involved Clark family tree. What I learned was that Abraham Clark had many children, but only a few families can actually trace back directly to him as few of his children had children of their own.
I have researched for years, trying to find the "missing links." I have come upon four possibilities: 1) We are descendants through Abraham's son, Thomas's son, David. 2) We are descendants through Abraham's son, Andrew. #) We are descendants as NOT direct descendants of Abraham Clark, the signer, however our lines go back to a common ancestor who would have been Abraham Clark's great grandfather. Thus, my line and Abraham Clark's were second cousins. That would make me an 8th cousin to Abraham Clark. Thus, if DNA tests were done on the actual male "direct descendants" of Abraham Clark, and my Clark cousins, they would all have the exact same DNA markers which are passed down through the male line. Perhaps one day we will find such a male descendant of Abraham Clark and be able to finally prove scientifically the relationship. 4) We will never know!
Meanwhile, I will continue to investigate the new family line that I have discovered....my own line. I have honored Abraham "Abra" Clark),with my novel, A Founder for All, and my second novel which will expand the story of his sons who were imprisoned by the British on the Jersey, a hellish prison ship. That novel will be titled, A Patriot's Price.
